The Library and Media Center is the major learning resource facility at the college. The library provides students and faculty with a rich variety of materials to support the curriculum, to meet information needs, to satisfy interests and academic curiosity. The library also assists in study, in research, and in cultural development. Professional librarians offer reference and research services and are available to promote and facilitate the use of library resources, both in person or virtually.
The library’s high-quality collection includes more than 178,593 carefully selected reference and circulating books in print and 450,772 eBooks; over 180,000 online periodicals; over 180 online databases. Additionally, the reserve collection includes of over 4,000 textbooks and 7,530 semester reserve books.
OneSearch, the library catalog, offers users the ability to search through Kingsborough’s – and all of CUNY’s – library holdings. Patrons can look up their textbooks for their courses, journal articles for their research, or any other title, using OneSearch. Through OneSearch, patrons may also request items from other CUNY libraries. Patrons can sign in to access their account, and to use electronic collections from off-campus. Interlibrary Loan services expand the range of research materials available for instruction and scholarship. Materials that are not owned by the Kingsborough or any other CUNY library may be obtained through Interlibrary loan. Additional services include group study rooms, computer terminals, library instruction sessions to facilitate information literacy, library guides to help support course assignments, remote access to most electronic databases, e-mail notices of books being held and of overdue books, online renewal of Kingsborough library books, photocopiers microfilm reader/printers, featured displays of new books, and featured exhibits in wall and floor display cases.
The Media Center (L-115, Ext. 5044) has a variety of non-print materials and media services that serve the needs of departments, students, and faculty. Among materials available are audio and video recordings and music and language recordings. Media reference service is available throughout the academic year. The “Learning Lab,” which consists of a 37-carrel audio listening facility, L-102, is used to provide instructional classes in the foreign languages.
