Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Theatre Arts degree program requirements, graduates will:

1. identify and define significant theatrical techniques, terms, trends, and theories that are centerpieces of dramatic literature, theatrical performance and production, both today and across the theatrical timeline (Techniques, Terminology & Theories).
2. differentiate between the various theatrical disciplines and production roles, while applying discipline-specific knowledge and techniques through the creation of theatrical productions (Theatrical Practice).
3. assess theatre as a civically-engaged, collaborative art form through co-curricular learning experiences that highlight the potential for theatre as a vehicle for social change and community building (Civic Engagement).
4. combine or synthesize existing concepts in original ways and/or work in an imaginative way displaying a high degree of innovation, divergent thinking, and risk taking in service of the collaborative theatrical process (Creative Thinking Skills).
5. apply analytical skills (the process of breaking complex topics or issues into parts to gain a better understanding of them) through the critical reading of dramatic literature, the dissection of theatrical concepts, and the critical examination of live theatrical productions (Analytical Reading & Writing).

College Requirements:

English and Math proficient as determined by the CUNY Proficiency Index, unless otherwise exempt, or successful completion of any required developmental course(s).

Civic Engagement Experiences:

One (1) Civic Engagement experience satisfied by Civic Engagement Certified or Civic Engagement Component course or approved outside activity.

Writing Intensive Requirement:

One (1) Writing Intensive Course  in any discipline is required.

*Notes:  THA 4001  (Performance Practicum Series) and THA 4101  (Production Practicum Series) are for students who are out of sequence in their Practicums and MUST take two of the SAME Practicum in the SAME semester in order to meet the requirements of the degree.  Consultation with the Communications and Performing Arts Department is required to enroll in these courses.  These course are equivalent to THA 4000  and THA 4100 .
