This class offers a survey of the history of United States popular culture from its earliest forms until today. It traces the development of popular culture media and content over time since the colonial period, with emphasis on theater, popular literature, music and film, television, advertising, social media, how popular culture reflects and incorporates United States social issues and change, and the relationships between cultural producers and consumers.
